生物の優れた機能や構造、生態系の仕組みを観察・分析し、その知恵を技術開発やものづくりに活かすこと。単に形状を模倣するだけでなく、持続可能な社会や環境負荷の低い設計を目指す考え方。

Biomimicry is the practice of studying the excellent functions, structures, and systems found in nature and applying that knowledge to technology and product design. Rather than merely copying shapes, it seeks to create sustainable solutions with low environmental impact.

バイオミミクリーとは

生物の構造・機能・プロセスを模倣して、人間の技術・
デザイン・システムに応用する考え方。ギリシャ語の
「bios（生命）」と「mimesis（模倣）」に由来。

自然は38億年の研究開発

生命は38億年の進化の中で、エネルギー効率・廃棄物ゼロ・
環境適応という問題をすでに解決している。バイオミミクリー
はその解を人間社会に転用する。蓮の葉の撥水構造・
シロアリの塚の空調システム・クモの糸の強度などが代表例。
